Quando la scuola del restauro converge a Bologna
Inserendosi nella tradizione pluridecennale delle lezioni estive promosse dalla FIAF (Fédération Internationale des Archives du Film) fin dagli anni Settanta, per la prima volta, nel 2007, la Film Restoration Summer School / FIAF Summer School è sbarcata in Italia, trovando il luogo d’accoglienza ideale nelle strutture della Cineteca di Bologna e del laboratorio L’Immagine Ritrovata.
Un rapporto d’ospitalità, possibile anche grazie al sostegno dell’ACE (Association des Cinémathèques Européennes) e del programma MEDIA dell’Unione Europea, che ha prodotto risultati soddisfacenti al punto di rinnovare e replicare l’appuntamento anche nel biennio successivo (2008 e 2009).
Sempre con la stessa volontà di convogliare intorno ai problemi del restauro persone e professionalità provenienti da tutto il mondo.
Un corso scandito in tre tempi consecutivi
Sono tre la fasi in cui si articola la Film Restoration Summer School / FIAF Summer School.
Lezioni
La prima avviene attraverso un apprendimento a distanza: i partecipanti selezionati scaricano on-line settimanalmente, da maggio a fine giugno, i testi scelti dallo staff della scuola per affrontare un percorso di lezioni tecniche e teoriche sui principi del restauro cinematografico.
Il Cinema Ritrovato
La seconda invece mette piede a Bologna durante il festival del Cinema ritrovato: una concomitanza che permette ai partecipanti del corso di avvicinarsi alle tematiche della conservazione del patrimonio filmico attraverso la partecipazione a proiezioni, lezioni e incontri specificatamente dedicati.
L’Immagine Ritrovata
E infine l’ultima tappa che si svolge negli spazi dell’Immagine Ritrovata: un vero e proprio stage pratico all’interno del laboratorio per prendere parte alle diverse fasi in cui si articolano il restauro fotochimico, il restauro del suono e il restauro digitale.

The ninth FIAF Film Restoration Summer School will finally take place in Bologna in Summer 2022
The Fédération Internationale des Archives du Film (FIAF), the Association des Cinémathèques Européennes (ACE), Cineteca di Bologna and L’Immagine Ritrovata are thrilled to announce that after the forced postponement of the 2020 edition, the ninth FIAF Film Restoration Summer School will finally take place in Bologna in summer 2022.

The Coronavirus-19 pandemic has had a big impact on our lives during the last two years, but the institutions behind the Summer School have come together once again in order to renew and strengthen their long lasting cooperation, a bond that aims to pursue the spread of film preservation and conservation through the international community. Specialists, film archive staff and students that are looking forward to experience the complete restoration workflow in our two-decade experienced film restoration laboratory are more than welcome to apply.

In 2016 the Film Restoration / FIAF Summer School will be held for the 7th time from 24th of June until 15th of July.
Cineteca di Bologna and L’Immagine Ritrovata film restoration and conservation laboratory are organizing the Film Restoration Summer School 2016 in cooperation with Fédération Internationale des Archives du Film (FIAF) and the Association des Cinémathèques Européennes (ACE). Like previous Summer Schools, the 2016 course is aimed at specialists, film archive staff and students. During the participant selection process, priority will be given to those working in FIAF and ACE member institutions.

L’Immagine Ritrovata laboratory’s highly specialized staff will be closely involved in the intensive 2-week training program and internship. Participants will be divided into groups and will work in each of the laboratory’s departments.

The main purpose of this project is having selected participants experience hands-on the work of actual restoration professionals. They will also meet restoration experts from all over the world, as well as the Laboratory and Cineteca staff.
The Film Restoration Summer School / FIAF Summer School is designed both for archivists and staff working at FIAF archives, and students. The aim is to foster a shared knowledge in the field for current and future generations and film archives worldwide.
